Veck Special Edition
Veck is an immensely fast-paced romp through fiften one-minute-long levels, with massive firepower upgrades every minute - you’re firing 1,575 bullets every second in the fifteenth minute! The upgrades aren’t enough to defeat the toughest enemies, however - you’ll have to duck and dodge some very taxing baddies if you want to get a high score.
Veck is a game that draws on many classic arcade titles, from Robotron: 2084, Smash TV, and even Sinistar, to the great vector games of the early 80’s like Asteroids, Major Havoc, Lunar Lander and Quantum. It also introduces its own unique gameplay and challenges found nowhere else. Originally started as an entry for the Retro Remakes vector-game mini-competition, it won more than half the vote, giving me one HELL of an ego boost. I rule. Yeah.
Though everybody assumes it’s Geometry Wars clone, this isn’t strictly correct, for two reasons - firstly, Geometry Wars itself is a great mix of all these earlier classic games, and secondly, Veck doesn’t claim to be a direct clone - rather, Veck is its own game with its own gameplay. If you want to play Geometry Wars on your PC, this isn’t the page for you - all you need is a copy of Vista and you can play the genuine article yourself! Of course, who really wants Vista? If you’re not yet convinced that Microsoft’s latest operating system isn’t a steaming pile of shiny excrement, and you want that authentic Geometry Wars experience, I’d recommend Grid Wars by Mark Incitti, or the rather ace Grid Assault by Wiebo de Wit.
Download Veck 1.5 SE here - 1.7MB, Windows and DirectX 8+ required. There’s XInput support for those with XBox 360 pads. No configuration bollocks needed, and your hands get a nice massage!

Hi. I’ve just played a few games - a friend pointed this out to me, and brought his controller for me to use.
My eyes are recovering.. it took me a while to get used to. The first game, I was worried that I was going to pass out after the first 30 seconds.
I liked Grid Wars and I liked this - it’s interesting how the enemies slowly circle around you before pouncing, especially during later levels when it mixes with the more direct enemies from the black holes.
What did you use to make this game? What language, compiler, libraries, etc?

Bug/Exploit report: Your energy seems to go up based on stick through, no actual speed. Hence you can just hold the stick driving into the corner and rack up energy. Probably a fug (feature bug) to avoid CPU usage? Maybe have if you run into the wall, reduce the rate at which your energy is climbing, or energy is a tminimum speed for .15 sec or something
